Can I use a prepaid phone I buy from Best Buy for replacing contract phone? Right now I have month-to-month, I might want to switch to smartphone next year. I don't want to be in another 2yr contract using basic phone. The current (old) phone I am using just doesn't work well anymore. "Can you hear me now???" Everyone says they can't hear me.

Prepaid devices usually require that it be activated on a prepaid plan for six months before it can be activated on a postpaid account. You might want to check into purchasing a basic phone at full retail price or purchase a slightly used phone from third party sites like Swappa.
