when will verizon be rolling out the 8.1 update to users who are waiting and waiting and waiting? The delays are inexplicable.

Windows latest blockbuster offering for version 8.1 is Cortana, a virtual assistant software program designed to help users organize and maximize the benefits of owning a smartphone. Verizon customers who purchased the 8.0 version were promised the update to 8.1 which MICROSOFT began rolling out months ago. Verizon customers who are waiting for the update should be given a date certain as to the availability of the promised software.

Thank you for reaching out to us ggailey. 8.1 is a great update that brings a lot of great new features to the table, including Cortana. While we do not have any new details regarding the release of 8.1, keep up with the latest details using our news link: http://bit.ly/n5snpq

8.1 will be included with the Nokia Cyan firmware update. The update began rolling out just a few weeks ago. There are a few people that have previews on their devices because of a developer release of 8.1. It's Verizon so we should get the firmware update probably at the end of August, the latest. AT&T's 1520 just got theirs last week. So it's coming out slowly. Check on the Nokia website for more information, but 8.1 is awesome, with notification center and Cortana. Check on the Nokia website for up to date information, since it'll hit Verizon a while after. Cause you know, Windows devices don't even have their own booth in Verizon stores

Verizon's press office responds to the question indicating that they have no idea when the promised windows 8.1 update will available for Nokia 928. Thank you Chris for sharing what you've learned about the situation. I too am hesitant to suggest that Verizon has demonstrated competent performance as a retailer of Windows 8 phone service. It is a shame because once users try the expertly crafted Nokia smartphones they will realize for themselves what a powerfully perfect and useful tool the engineering team at Microsoft has created. The Droid product is okay if you have the time and energy to slog through its endless menu choices and settings. Apple's I series offers a terrific system but is seriously overpriced. About 15 years ago I interviewed the late George Marrow, the original developer of the laptop computer. This was at Comdex in Las Vegas. And it was during that period when the selling point for all systems was that it was IBM compatible, (remember that?) I asked him who would eventually come out with the best consumer operating system. He said, "whoever makes it as easy to use as a toaster!" Windows 8 and, if we ever see it, Windows 8.1 on Nokia smartphones fits George's description of the best in many ways. For Verizon to be lagging behind is silly, illogical, and disturbing. But Verizon might eventually come to realize their mistake and get better. If not we will take our business to networks better suited to the marketplace.

I have failed to find mention of the rollout of the Windows 8.1 update using the link provided by Customer Support.  Is there another area that Verizon has that is actually committed to provide support information on the product updates for our devices? I'm not feeling the love.

This response is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!  Why can't Verizion work directly with Microsoft to "pre-test" the software so it will be available upon release like with iPhones?  Do you not see that we Windows Phone users have waiting long enough for the Windows Phone 8.1 update and Cyan.  The Icon needs Cyan Firmware to gain features not available (even with the Developer Preview upgrade).  This lack of consideration and dismay of WP users is tantamount to discrimination.  Why does Apple iPhone users warrant better treatment than Windows Phone users?  We pay the same for our plans and devices as Apple iPhone users do, so why don't we get "pre-tested" and immediate downloads for updates like they do?  What will it take to get Verizon to provide us the same treatment?  FCC complaints?  A class action discrimination lawsuit perhaps?    Please tell me who I need to talk to at Verizon to get this update process changed so we Windows Phone users get the same treatment as iPhone users.

So, just to be clear...  If I want updates in a TIMELY manner (which is what I was promised by VZW) in the future, I will have to move to a different carrier.  What a shame, have been here since they were GTE.

I didn't think that even though they have done anything but promote WP, don't even act like they really want to sell them in the store, even then I didn't think they would want to lag so far behind AT&T in anything.

I switched from AT&T to Verizon because I was told that they had better service.

I bought two Lumia 928 phone because I liked the way you could get to your data and applications and how easy it was to integrate this phone with the Microsoft cloud environment being developed. The future path for this operating system has a great upside and financing with research that could surpass all others if implemented properly. Microsoft's recent reorganization and selection for CEO shows that they are most definitely serious and in it for the long game.

What I have been finding is that Verizon is nearly the same in coverage for the areas that I have been in and their updates to their phones are way behind.

We purchase these phones because we are sold on specific features and development paths of them. To find out that Verizon simply does not care to support the feature sets that are added for their existing customers is a very big deficit.

I am half way through my contract and am still weighing the pros and cons of the Verizon service. At this point I can tell you that Verizon is behind the previous experience I had with other carriers with respect to keeping the phone features up to date.

As a suggestion to Verizon, other carriers are looking for ways to out market you. This is an area that you are being beat soundly in. Please make this a customer satisfaction issue and follow up on this board. You are taking a beating and will begin to lose a reputation that took years to create. Once you lose it, it takes much longer to get it back. Do not get lazy or take "Lean" to customer service.

I like to keep my electronic tools up to date. I renewed my 2 years contract a month ago, picking up a lumia 928. Now I feel in the limbo about accessing an update (8.1) to keep my phone up to date. Dear Verizon, I know you are interested at selling plans & options. Your small customers are existing too. You have the right to care enough about them to share how  you plan to support your products they bought from you.

At first I thought you were talking about Verizon having better service at Windows Phones, but nah, if they don't even have a WP booth in their stores. ATT IMO has the best Windows Phone service, they have all the nice WPs from low-end 520 to the high end 1520. The reason Verizon doesn't put much care into WP is because they don't sell well enough to Verizon. Well, with that logic, the reason they don't sell that much is probably because they are in Guantanamo and tell every associate to push iOS and Android and the people will buy. So WP and Blackberry are pushed aside. The "WP don't have enough apps" argument was valid in 2010, but now they're are plenty of apps that the everyday consumer will find on iOS and Android. Maybe with more forums like these and if Verizon branches out to the other Windows Phone forums they can be profitable enough to have their own station in the Verizon stores. Baby steps in Verizon's eye, c'mom Verizon, hire me as your Windows Phone rep for the company. I'll get some people to get Windows Phones, but first you shouldn't hide them.
