when will verizon wireless get new Windows phones?

When will Verizon Wireless offer NEW Windows phones?  I have the Lumia 928 and wanted to upgrade but there are no upgrades for Windows.  What is going on?  I read that Windows is releasing new phones on the fall 2015 and I am hoping that Verizon will carry these.  Other wise, I am considering changing carriers although I have been with Verizon since 2002.

This is the only phone sold by Verizon with Windows.

Microsoft Lumia 735 | Verizon Wireless

And, with MS cutting back drastically, you won't find many more than 1 or 2 phones offered on any carrier.

VZW cannot sell new Windows Phone devices if Microsoft/OEM doesn't release any new phones.  It's a catch 22

Microsoft is suppose to talk about new 'Windows 10 device' at IFA on September 4.  So we'll see what new Windows Phones they will have to offer.

If the article on Windows Central has any merit; Windows Phone on VZW is dead!

Verizon is reportedly one of those carrier relationships that is ending with Microsoft due to it not being beneficial (see Nadella's message).

I sure hope this isn't true. If so I may have to move my company to At&t. That makes more sense than going to iPhone.

primortal, I was just about to post that exact thing. Thanks for sharing here.

VZW will lose 2 lines when the new Cityman (Lumia 950 XL) is released and Verizon dumps on it.

Their Loss.

Maybe TMobile, or ATT, since I have DirectTV and ATT might be buying them out.

Could make since to move.

Love my Icon. Looking forward to Cityman (Lumia 950 XL).

You have to also note that the reason for no new phones in so long is the transition from Nokia to MS,

and the Windows 10 release. These 2 things alone take time and in the long run will be worth it.

Windows 10 Mobile is getting better. 10166 isn't perfect, but it's very usable for a daily driver.

There are some bugs still, but not game ending. Next release I think will be pretty dang solid.

My guess is, 2 to 3 weeks for next Mobile Insider release.

VZW is mostly to blame being they sit on these devices (Icon and the 735) for several months before release them.  Then throw a fit when they don't sell.  They don't sell for two reasons (aside from the app gap); one, the phone is practically out of date and two, VZW doesn't advertise at all along with the brick-and-mortar stores treating the devices like they have the plague.  Microsoft isn't innocent here either; they don't advertise for their devices either.

I prey with Windows 10 Mobile changes all that.  I really hope what Windows Central said about Microsoft and VZW isn't true.

I hope WIN10 can turn it around too.  I might not want to use Android forever, and I have yet to try an iPhone, but I did my stint with Blackberry, and that's over.

I agree I have done the Blackberry dance. I had an Iphone, and still have androids. They work well.

Right now I migrated my Iphone 5c to the Windows lumia 735.

Well the first thing is I went through app withdrawals. There really isn't much of a selection of apps in the Windows store

The iphone was for work and I need a good alert notify app or control. The windows phone didn't have that.

Anyway to get more functionality I went the route of becoming a Windows Insider and got Windows 10 installed on my phone. Well it was worth the risk it has better functionality than Windows 8.1. The phone didn't go up in smoke.

Worked pretty well I did that big waiting game for updates and patches with the cell provider.  Waited a year for a fix on their last patch for the dorid. So I could only guess on how long I would have to wait for windows updates.

But so far it seems to work ok, and still in the process of learning the in and outs of the windows phone.

Unfortunately, I agree with all of this post. I ditched my Windows Phone about 9 months ago after being a die hard from the get-go WP user. I left because of the app gap and the apathy of Verizon for the platform. I miss the usability of WP8.1 almost daily, but I can't go back because of a few specific app needs. I held hope for the next generation but what I'm reading is not encouraging. At all. It's sad.

primortal, I just read the same thing. Looks like I will be shopping for a new carrier soon. Love my Icon except for the lack of a SD card slot. I am excited about the 940/950 series with windows 10! It shall work great with my laptop & Xbox One.

I know we are a small group of consumers, but I really wish we could make our voices heard.  I want a new windows phone, but have no options.  I would buy a used Icon from Ebay but it will not take a SD card.  I would even buy the 735 but I can't live without Glance.  So I live with my old out of date 822.

Please, oh please, give me a decent option somewhere!

And yes, I will be switching to whichever carrier can bring me a great (I would settle for good) windows phone (whenever MS/Nokia finally produces it)

I hope Verizon at least decides to get the "Cityman" phone for people who want a quality Microsoft 10 phone.  I want to be able to link my desktop computer, laptop computer, and phone such that I can use any device to access my data and applications anywhere.

I am tired of all of the shortcomings and unusual problems on Android and have no desire for the limited customization of an iPhone.  From my understanding Windows 10 will be capable of running some Android apps with the addition of an add-on or feature, but I don't know the details or facts around this.

My contract with Verizon expires next year.  I have enjoyed the performance of Verizon's strong signals where ever I go, but I will leave if I must.  I am tired of paying monthly charges for a device that comes up short on my work and personal life.

Specs for the pending phones reveal that they will be equipped with GSM radios. Because Verizon Wireless's network is CDMA based, the phones won't work on VZW. Even if Microsoft built CDMA versions, VZW would still need to create a code for each model in order for it to be able to access the network. No code = no access.

Such is the case with the Microsoft Surface 3. The unlocked 4G/LTE versions are due out shortly.  As of this now, VZW does not have a code for the S3 in the system so the device can't directly connect to VZW.

I agree.  It is too bad on the Surface 3 situation since it is getting good ratings.  Unfortunately for me, I already have two Android tablets.

If Microsoft decides to build a CDMA version it would likely only be due to the fact that Verizon has agreed to carry one for its customers since Verizon represents the huge majority of CDMA customers.  It is also possible that Samsung, LG, or Motorola will decide to build one with specs that are similar to Talkman or Cityman if they see a trend develop where people decide that a Microsoft phone would be a good thing.  The obstacle for Microsoft is to find a way to overcome their bad history with phones such that people will desire the switch.

I got burned with two different models of the early Microsoft operating system phones and haven't had new interest in a Microsoft phone until now.  I had one of the original Samsung Pocket PC's and a HTC Windows Mobile 6 phone and both were terrible.  But I am one of those who are ready to try the Microsoft route again.  I am tired of Android and the problems with updates and adware that is abundant in the Google Play store on the apps.  I also love the idea of having a phone that has the full power of a PC and smooth data integration between devices.

Some people think Microsoft will announce their Lumia phones at the IFA trade show in Berlin in early September.

I've retired my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012).

The VZW 4G/LTE version cost me almost  $700. Samsung issued 1 OS upgrade, a few patches and then said that was it.

Jellybean 4.1.2 is long in the tooth and the stock browser is unable to interface properly with some sites. I downloaded Chrome...but...am disappointed how quickly Samsung obsolete this flagship device.

I now have a Microsoft Surface 3 and a Surface Pro 3. I don't really need 4G on the S3 and SP3...but...I'll tether if needs be.

The new Lumia 950 and 950XL was announced this morning and I want to buy them.  Do I have to look for a new carrier?

Have you seen Verizon's smart phone/device selection?  It must outnumber Windows devices 5 to 1.  Do you really think Verizon is going to give customers what they want?  A great Windows phone?  Really?

If you want the 950 series Lumia, you might want to start getting ready to switch carriers.  I know I am.
