Can anyone answer the reason why windows phone is just so completely behind? I know they are a little late to the game in the smartphone department, but they are monsters when it comes to computers in general. It's taken years to catch up to siri, and don't get me started on the lack of customizations that it lacks compared to android. It's such a great sleek looking interface crying out to be perfected. I admit, I am a bit of a flip flopper: I started with an old windows phone (HTC windows touch phone from 2007), then I tried the android world and loved it except for all the glitches the early software had. Then I went to the HTC Trophy hoping for better and I found a very solid phone. Now I've upped it to the Lumia 928 and it has been a pretty good phone until the headset problems and ear piece problems during calls. And they are so late to the game with other features and designs; like the thickness of the phone. Only Samsung has been able to repurpose the S4 to make a solid windows phone. At this point, I think I just need to calm down, take a step back, and wait for my upgrade when I can order the LG G3 and be happy for another 6 months.
If you haven't tried Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview you'll be surprised how much the OS has caught up. Cortana is way more advanced than Siri and will only get better as time goes being Cortana isn't tied to OS updates so MS can update her at anytime.
The Lumia 928 had a defect and I think there is another post here that explains the exact problem. It's just VZW doesn't want to issue new phones so it keeps shelling out defective ones.
Hey Thanks primortal. It sounds like you really like windows phone. I would too if they made their phones more available/usable/up to date with the rest of the pack and all that. I really do not want to void the warranty of my phone and so I'm just going to wait. If I wanted to get the dev's preview, I would've done that in April. I boosted my HTC Trophy with windows 7.8 and that made a huge difference.
At the moment I'm giving up on windows phone and running back to android asap. I like the UI for sure on windows phone, but the customizations are just too limited for me.
Android L looks like a major update. In particular, the ART runtime environment seems the most intriguing to me of all the changes. I'm sticking with my iPhone and Lumia Icon for now though.
Microsoft has had a mobile operating system a DECADE. WP8 is just the latest iteration of of what started as WinCE/Windows Pocket PC. That turned into Windows Mobile and eventually Windows Phone. So Microsoft has had a mobile operating system since before iOS was even a twinkle in Steve Jobs' eye. Back then the king of mobile OS' was Nokia's Symbian.
I'm an iPhone user but I also use a Lumia Icon. I can tell you first hand that Cortana (in beta form) blows Siri away. Microsoft IS stepping up, but what do you expect? It's the developers that write the apps, not Microsoft. Everybody wants to code for iOS because iOS users spend 4x what Android users spend on their mobile, and I have to believe it's even a bigger disparity between iOS users and WP users.
