Windows has decided to wait until the second half of the year to start bringing out a lot of the new phones. Which ones and what carriers will have which phone? No one knows yet. Your best source of info would be from MS. So far the 640 and 640XL are AT&T phones.

They might stop carrying IT IN stores, but WP phones will remain available online and via ordering in stores. Just like Verizon did with BlackBerry.

Honestly Microsoft should stick to computers and the Xbox. I do not like Windows phones at all. The layout is very strange, the tiles make it hard to navigate, and they are annoying to troubleshoot.
As for Sony, they make primarily GSM phones now, and the US is the only CDMA country left. I suppose if they made a compatible phone, that was popular in the US that Verizon would carry it.
And VZW does carry a lot of phones.
Apple
BlackBerry
HTC
LG
Microsoft
Motorola
Pantech
Samsung
