Has this phone and Sony been abandoned by Verizon in terms of updates like Lollipop and Advanced Calling?

Hi,

I had a Samsung Galaxy S3 that, albeit a bit dated, could take a call and pass data at the same time.  I shopped around for quite a while and was enamored with the Z3v's specs like SD card, IPV rating, etc...  It's really a great phone except for the lack of Advanced Calling.  Your website indicated (as do cached versions of it) that the phone is Advanced Calling capable.  It's not really, though is it?  Capable implies that it can do something.  It's can't.  When is an update coming that will enable the spec that you said this phone was capable of doing when you sold it?  Otherwise, it strikes me that it was false advertising from the get go.

Being capable does not guarantee a feature will be available.  The phone has been long discontinued, but does not mean it will never be updated to AC.  This does nothing to quell your curiosity, but most users have disabled AC on their capable phone due to quality issues with dropped calls.  If I tell you that you can do something, yet I do not allow you to, that does not change the fact that the possibility is there.

While appreciate your prompt response - it is entirely unhelpful. The phone has always been capable of flying to the moon. It just needs a launch package. That Advanced Calling is a known service that was being rolled out when the phone was being sold and the phone was shown to be Advanced Calling capable is something that most reasonable persons would interpret as an eventuality. Our discussion is fascinating but unless you're someone from Verizon who is in a position to answer questions then I really don't understand why you'd respond at all. Good day.

I respond because I have experience in these issues.  It is still a possibility to receive an update with AC given the phone is not quite a yer old yet.  Of course, this is a Verizon update, not an OEM update, so the 2 year window for updates isn't guaranteed.  Any response you get with _VZW at the end of the name will most likely tell you to keep checking here:

Software Update: Sony Xperia Z3v | Verizon Wireless

and here

Smartphones | Verizon Wireless

But, there is no Sony listed as compatible currently.

If you look at these forums, you will see that this question has been asked many times already, but Verizon continues to just ignore these questions, at least in as far as providing any kind of useful answer. I have been growing increasingly impatient about this, myself, because I, also, bought the phone explicitly on the understanding that it would be updated to include that feature in EARLY 2015. It is almost October.

It does really start to seem like a bait-and-switch...

It is like Sony and Verizon have disowned each other. Verizon Tech Support is very careful what they say in regards to this phone and any possibilities of ANY software upgrade, or the more serious problem of overheating. Sony issued a statement saying there is a overheating issue while using the camera or video recorder of this phone and their is no fix for it. Verizon has no fix but to keep sending phones out to people that complain.

We buy all products with intent that they should work as advertised (Like Advanced Calling) or simply taking pictures without possibly burning your hand. Sony has thrown all the problems of this phone to Verizon. Verizon cannot fix them, so that leaves us, the consumer, in the dark.

I have only had one company bend over backward to ever help me with any cell phone issue. That is Sprint. They take care of their customers. Verizon tech support just wants to verify your identity and send you another phone when you complain about this phone.

This is disappointing.
