We currently have a family plan with 4 smartphones and 1 tablet, each of which have their own contract end date (which is fine with me). We are thinking of giving our youngest an iPhone for Christmas (which we already own, but it is not activated) and replace it with the tablet line. Since the tablet has it's own number and data, would this just be a device change? Can this be done?

Great news GoTNVols! As indicated by sprmankalel and datamonger (thank you!) you can certainly activate your own iPhone on the line currently active with a tablet! You can do this online if you login to your My Verizon account at http://bit.ly/xB4iTc and click on the Activate or Switch Device on the left side of your screen and follow instructions. You will need to order a SIM card if your iPhone is a 4G device as it is required to activate. You can also stop at any Verizon Wireless store and get a SIM on the spot and get the phone activated. Please enter your ZIP code at this link http://bit.ly/3SdsA to find a store near you.

I don't see why it couldn't be done. My mother had a mobile broadband adapter through Sprint back in 2007 and had the phone number from that ported over to a standard voice line in 2008. There shouldn't be any issues porting your tablet number over to a smartphone. You may actually be able to move the SIM card over to the smartphone and add voice to the line of service.
