Call disconnects when entering keypad numbers to computer operators

When making Verizon iPhone 11 calls to a computer operator requiring keypad number entries the calls consistently disconnect whenever a key pad entry is made.  This happens with multiple different numbers and no trouble is experienced when I make the same call on a land line.
