5GUW makes my iPhone 13Pro Max unusable without wi-fi

Just started today while on my way to an appt. in an unfamiliar area - Google maps just dies. No internet at all, not on 5GUW, 5G, or LTE, unless I'm on wi-fi.  Even at home, where I've always had great service whether on wi-fi or not, I get nothing.

Why am I paying for a cellular network that doesn't even work? This is unacceptable.
