New Trade in promotion

Did anyone else get locked into a 24 month contract with Verizon? I got told by a agent I would receive $1000 trade in credit. They made it sound like a Kim sum and when I received my new phone and mailed in my paid off phones about after a week had passed I called to see when I would get my $1000 trade in credit only to find out they are going to credit my account $41 something a month for 24 months to equal “$1000” now I’m stuck in a contract for 24 months. I asked to get my trade in phones back and Verizon said they could not do that. I have been tricked into a 2 year contract. I even spoke to an agent that said sir it’s in the agreement so I asked what exactly does the agreement say? And she responded with I don’t know… why even tell me it’s in the agreement when you don’t even know what it says. When next year comes and I want to upgrade I will not be able to unless I pay off the $1200 phone which by paying off early it’s like I lost out on my phone I traded in. I’m on the verge of taking this to small claims court. Any recommendations!!??

You usually don't get cash up front for a trade in.  It's always over 24 months, on verizon anyway.  You need to read the fine details of any promotion and ask questions.  Did they tell you about getting cash up front for the trade in ehrn you signed up?

No, nothing about cash and I didn’t want cash. Last time I did a trade in I received credit which I put towards my new phones they were almost half way paid off…. This time I asked when will I receive my credit and that’s when I learned about the 41 something a month, I told an agent had I been told this was how this promotion would be I wouldn’t have traded in my phones now I’m stuck for 24 months when Verizon allegedly does not do contracts…. This is definitely contract….. I went off the agents word. So let’s say I decide to pay off my phone early today what am I actually get for my paid off phone that I had traded in to them? Pretty much nothing.

The promotions have been 2yr bill credits for quite a while now.  When was the last time you did a trade in?  That's why you have to read the fine details of any promotion with any carrier.   From what I understand if you pay your phone off you loose the deal but call Verizon and ask.

The last time I traded at the Verizon store was August of 2018. The rep wanted me to send in the trade but I said no as their send-in procedure is a farce. He gave me $335 for an iPhone 7 Plus for an iPhone X purchase. Since then I have bought and traded all my phones with Apple. Sure, they don’t give $800 for a trade but they honor their word on trades. And I get my credit card credited in seven or eight days. I did the same last month when I purchased the new iPad Mini. Apple’s process is honest and hassle free.

I should have went through apple directly instead of being tricked by Verizon.

Unless you were misinformed by the Verizon Rep, I would go straight to the FTC and Better Business BBB to file a formal complaint.  I have not received my $500 each line promo that I switched from T-Mobile when promised.  Everything was done online per their rules.  The more complaints we file with the FTC, the more things will get corrected with Verizon and their bait and switch ways of doing business.

Yeah they totally played me and didn’t tell me anything…. I even asked if I could go in store and do the trade in like I had done in the past and get my trade in credit there and was told yes!! I went into the store and the lady took my phone and put them in the mail in package and said just mail these in and when they receive them I will get credited…. I told her they said I can do it in the store and she said no. I even went to a bigger Verizon store and the guy said I already started the trade in process so we can’t help u they will have to be mailed in….. I explained how I did it in the past but still he would not try to help!! More than a week later I had not heard anything so I called Verizon only to find out I was not going to get credited like I was told instead it’s broken up into payments for 24 months which even after 24 months I’ll still owe $200 which means next year if I wanted to upgrade I can not unless I fork out $1200!! Thanks for the information I’ll definitely do that!!
