I'm traveling to study abroad in Córdoba, Argentina for 5 months and I was told that my iPhone 4 was not a globally capable phone. Am I able to buy an international plan? I want to be able to use my data (without needing wifi) and make phone calls.
You can buy a plan all day long, but your phone isn't gonna work if Argentina runs on a GSM network... The reason why your phone won't work there is because the iPhone 4 (not global capable) runs only on CDMA networks, and therefore wouldn't be able to communicate at all in countries that use GSM/UMTS type networks. The iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, however, are capable of running on those type of networks as they use SIM cards for those features. The 4S specifically has that just for global data...
An analogy of this is, your phone doesn't 'speak' the right language...
