This is probably a dumb question, but I have an iPhone 4 and I am eligible for upgrade soon. I was just wondering if when I upgrade to the new iPhone if my child could use my old phone as an iPod Touch. His iPod Touch is broken and I don't want to buy him one if this will work. If so, is there anything specific I need to do to make that happen?
Thanks!

You would want to shut off the phone part plus the mobile data, so it would not try to register with Verizon. Turn on wifi when needed, the same as an iPod , and you should be good to go.

I am thinking of doing the same with my old Android device. I'm assuming it would be similar to a tablet, but much smaller - a mini-tablet. Good Luck

Yep, and it works fine. I upgraded a couple of months ago from the Fascinate to the RAZR MAXX, and when I activated the MAXX on my line, I shut the phone and the mobile data off on the Fascinate, and it works like a wifi tablet. I have the 16GB card in it with my music downloaded to it so I can use it as a music player, or if I am on a wifi network, I can do apps or anything I want on the network.
Works like a charm...

Thanks for the info. My old phone is a fascinate as well.
OT: I got the std razr but am considering exchanging for a maxx (added battery life). Or possibly a nexus. Just need to spend some time with the phone to see how it works for me.

I put my old phones on airplane mode and then I turn on WiFi when needed.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

judabark, that's a great question! Yes, your son can use the device as an iPod once it is replaced. They could even connect to the web using a WiFi connection.
