This morning my iphone noted that a carrier update was available? Anyone know what this does? I am so sick of the secrecy that goes on with this sort of thing!!! Maybe I'm just weird, but I'd like to know what something someone does BEFORE I agree to have it done.

Ok and what does it address? Either nobody knows or cares. Geez why is it so hard to get a straight answer instead of the generic response meant for the general ignorant masses?
Then why are you asking (and {word filter avoidance} at) us? We are users like you, not the developers in Cupertino, CA @ Apple Corp. If you don't like the update, don't install it. Simple choice.

Did you try contacting VZ for an answer to this? Since we aren't employees (excluding the few times an employee does respond in these threads) we know about as much as you do to the specifics of this update. Doesn't mean that a straight answer isn't being given...if the question was never asked in the right place. Calm down...if call VZ and no one can tell you anything clearer (tech support I would assume...the regular reps may have no idea) then you can become upset. Otherwise, making comments about the "ignorant masses" (which you are currently a part of...not a dig. A fact until you can prove you know more than everyone else on the subject) is a bit over the top until you actually dig further than this forum or Google and ask the company directly...

I apologize if I offended anyone out there. I have searched everywhere for an answer and cannot find one. I've emailed VZW and have yet to hear a more than a generic response. So, I'm sort of venting on the forums here and seeing if anyone has any insight into this issue. I'm not comfortable with doing an update on any piece of computer hardware without knowing the details as sometimes this breaks more than it fixes. I code for a living and with every build or update, I have to provide a line by line detail of what was addressed and what is still an issue. And believe me this forum and my comments to date are tame in comparison to what I've read on forums of which are directly related to my work. The people there have no compassion or sensitivity to anything related to courtesy or politeness. It's brutal! I'll tone it down here back in the real world and save my more creative comments for the Neanderthals in my business!

That's the only thing it changes. If you're not in one of the "extended network" areas, it won't affect you and is not worth worrying about.

As with AT&T I would assume Verizon is no different in terms of "carrier" update.
All it is is a small .ipcc file that updates the carrier settings like roaming as the person above mentioned. Carrier updates are always setting updates and changes.

Thank you. I know it's sad, but I'll sleep better tonight now! Geez, I need a life!
