Delete individual text?

Is it possible on the 4s to delete an individual text or will I have to delete the entire conversation?

swipe left to right on the particular message you want to delete and you should see a red delete button on the right side of the message

swiping doesn`t work for me but what does is to hit the edit button in the messaging thread and hitting edit and then selecting which message or messages to delete and then hit delete

Swipe works when trying to delete the conversation. To delete just one text within a conversation (or several) then you have to use edit and pick the one(s) you want to delete, as mentioned.
