EMOJI - Sending from Verizon Iphone to other Networks? UTF8? Verizon Status ?

I can't find alot of information on this... just a thread back from feb. of 2011 on how Verizon's network was not capable of sending UTF8 to other networks, which disallowed something like Emoji icons to be sent to say an Iphone or Droid on AT&T's network.

Has this changed?

Any work arounds?

Any plans on Verizon upgrading or allowing UTF8 to go outside there network like their competitor AT&T ?

Links are fine if you have any info from verizon, or otherwise...

Thanks,

No point in support UTF8 just for fancy icons.

It is the ability to send to other networks, ie: AT&T -- Sending to other Verizon based phones, and receiving from anyone (despite network) works fine.  It is the sending outside of our network.

I haven't tried in a few weeks.. but I would be surprised if this was changed that recently.

As for UTF8 -- Look it up.  It isn't just for a few fancy emoticons.

UTF8 Is the UCS..

Over half the internet is encoded in UTF8

What do those letters mean?  (for anyone who doesn't know)

UTF = UCS Transformation Format.

What is UCS?

UCS = Universal Character Set

It is quite essential, and a huge standard in use today.

The 8, is just 8-bit bytes.

I know most of you know all of that, but for anyone wondering what UTF8 is,.. that is a start Smiley Happy

This EMOJI example is just that. and example and at best an annoyance with the network.  IE: If I send my brother , who is on AT & T and has a Droid an emoticon in a text.. he gets garbled ascii like characters instead.

This may be somehow intentional,.. that is why I am asking.

Thanks for the replies,

I had to install the emoji pack on my iPhone the android I had before did not support it. But the secondary message app (SMS pro) had a add on pack and supported emoji
