I have not recveived my iPhone yet but wanted to know if any basic GPS service was included or do you have to purchase that monthly like with Blackberry?

Mapquest app is great it has voice turn by turn direction for free. You can pause turn by turn or not. I'm not sure if good maps works. The one that comes with the iPhone used to not come with voice turn by turn or voice anything.

As mentioned. MapQuest is a great free app. I have used it several times since my car was totaled in an accident 2 months ago (previously, I always used my OnStar navigation so I never cared about GPS apps). There are some GPS apps that you pay for that may be much better but my experience with the free MapQuest one has been great.

Paulrap, that is a great question! The iPhone does have Maps included which gives GPS directions, but they are not audible turn-by-turn directions. As the other posters have mentioned, there are several applications in the AppStore that support GPS. You can also download VZNavigator which is $4.99 per month and includes turn-by-turn directions as well as traffic updates, 3D maps, contact integration and more.
