Getting Text Alerts From Music to Work as Tones

Hello all, its been awhile since I asked any questions since things are going good with the phone and manual but I am now stumped.. I wanted to see what other Alert Tones were available to buy and use on my phone. I was in <<Sounds>> and I say a link that said <<buy more tones>>. So, I do some searching and find this "album" of 37 cool text tones for $7 and I buy it. It downloads fine into my Music App. I figured I would go back into <<Sounds>> and find these new tones along with the stock tones but no luck they are no where to be seen.

Does anyone know how to get the tones into <<Sounds>> or how I can use them for different alert tones?? It is frustrating to have them all in <<Music>> and not be able to get them transferred so I can actually use them. The phone seems to be treating them as <<purchased music>> just like any other album I have bought. If anyone knows how I can get these new tones to work on my phone, please respond and I will be most appreciative. My next stop is Apple Tech Support if no one here can help but I am confident that someone on here has experienced the same situation and knows a solution. Thanks very much in advance and I hope to hear from someone soon.

First plug your phone into your computer and open via iTunes

This is a long shot, but all I can come up with at the moment, but...(were there no instructions for this from that website you bought the tones from? There certainly should have been...)

It is possible that you need to connect your phone to your iTunes set-up on your computer (and I'm ASSuming you have that. If not you might need to install it and set up your phone to sync with it) and sync your music. If the tones you bought are indeed ringtones, they will have the right file extension that will send them to the ringtones folder of iTunes. Once they are in the ringtones folder of iTunes., you can sync the phone with iTunes a second time and agin, if they have the right file extensions, they will appear in your phone as ringtones.

I realize that this is rather convoluted, but it may work.

One more thing comes to mind...go to your Music program on the phone, find the tones you bought, and long-press the name of the tone. See if a list of options pops up. This is another long-shot, but who knows...

Be sure to follow the instructions carefully it's easy to miss a step.

If my first two suggestions for your bought ringtones don't work, hopefully you could at least sync those tones you bought into iTunes music folder and use the instructions in the link (which you shouldn't have to do).

Thanks for the suggestions. I could not get the file extention changed so I called Apple Care and we got it worked out. They also refunded my money for buying the alert tones since it caused me so much trouble which I thought was nice.

Anyhow, I had to download an app called Ringtone Maker (free) and used that to convert the files one at a time to alert tones. I had to then drag them to my desktop and back onto iTunes and they were then recognized as alert tones and not mp4s. When I synced my phone they now appear in the <<sounds>> setting and are working fine. The app was easy to use and had a video that clearly explained the whole process. I now have 37 more cool choices for alert tones. You would use the same app if you wanted to make free ringtones from your own music and it would be a little more complicated since you would have to record your music onto the app but it would still be easy enough. Thanks again for the help, it was appreciated.
