Having problems updating to 5.0.1 keep getting error message

I have tired muliple times to download this new "version" and keep getting an error message. this has happen the past two days. I am really getting tired of this. I have even deleted itunes and downloaded it again. what the point in having this phone if the updates dont work.

Some iPhone 4s u can do it right on the phone. I tried a lot of times on iTunes and it kept on timing out on me but I tried it on the phone it worked.

Thanks Gina. Although I have the 4 and not the 4s and haven't noticed that option in settings to download it on the phone . I wish I had that option would be so much easier then doing it on iTunes

4's u can do it too. Go to general software update.

It's right under settings general and then software update. U need wifi though to do it. It gave me the discription how many mb it will be.

I have this same problem. I did it on my iPhone 4 directly and the "connect to iTunes" screen popped up. So I hooked it up to my computer and it told me to restore it. I hit restore and it was almost done and then I get the Error (1) I have tried EVERYTHING. yes I have tried doing the hold down the two buttons thing and the DFU route but still nothing. Now I can't even make or receive calls because my phone is stuck on the stupid "connect to iTunes" screen.

I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you are experiencing in attempting to update the software on your iPhone 4. Although you can complete the update via wi-fi, we recommend completing the update using iTunes, as this is the preferred option. The link attached below includes both options.
