How do I get photos back for contacts that got lost when contacts transferred to new iPhone 4S?

I went in to the Apple store ot get help betting my data & all transferred from my old phone or Outlook to my new phone.  They used a device that Verizon uses which apparently is the same type used to get contacts from one cell phone to the next--not a smart phone apparently.

I've got dup contacts now--maybe because the way it was synced with my MacBookPro after converting the contacts. I already had most of my contacts converted over.  OK, I can compare & delete dups when I have time.

But I also noticed later that the photos that i had for a # of my contacts all seem to be missing.  Is there a way to get them back?

I thought of doing what I did with the calendars which was to delete the ones from the Mac & iPhone & then sync the iPhone to Outlook in Windows inBootcamp on my MacBookPro.

But then I'm afraid I would either have more dup contacts or if I deleted them 1st, I would have to somehow restore a group of contacts that I only used for email & so except for a couple of them or so in the group, they were not in Outlook or my WinMob phone. I suppose that there is a way that I could somehow retrieve just that group from my Time Machine backup, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Also in the transfer, none of the photos got transferred. They weren't mostly super important, but I am realizing now that I would like to have them.  Maybe I could just connect the old phone to Bootcamp & copy the photos from the phone to the C drive & then drag them over to the mac side & then learn how to get photos into iPhone contacts.

Any suggestions on best ways to deal with this?

I think the gist of your solution is in your last paragraph. I just got my first Mac, a MacBook Pro (a 17", quite a machine). If you move your pics over in Boot Camp, can you access them from the Mac side? If so, maybe you could set the contacts' photos in the Mac's contacts, then sync them to the phone with iCloud, maybe?

I know it can't be that easy, but it may be a place to start...

Yes, I think that I should be able to easily get them from Bootcamp (which I have also set up as a virtual machine in Parallels 5) to the Mac side. When I moved from Dell I just brought just about all my stuff from my Dell--I think by copying them to my external back up drive & then connecting that to my Mac & copying it to Windows 7 & then dragging it over to the Mac side. I think that is how I did it.

Back then I couldn't figure out any way to sync my Windows mobile phone with my Mac (althogh an iPhone can sync with Windows & Outlook--& I probaby should have used that to get all my pda data transferred. That was how I got my pda data into Outlook 2007 in bootcamp--by syncing with my phone.

I suppose probably Apple forums would be a better place to ask this. I'm over there now asking about Apple ID (beware to set yours up right. different apple products have differnt requirements. My ID used to be this user name. iCloud requires an email address so the Apple guy helping me made that change. But then iTunes registration tells me my password is invalid--even though it is valid to log into One to One & btw, I highly reccomend getting a One to One contract for all the wonderful training they offer for only $99/yr.  I see the rules, they have the typical current rules many do, at least 8 characters & at least 1 upper case & 1 lower case & 1 numeral. My current one missed on 1 of those points & I don't know where to change it & iTunes just rejects it--doesn't take me to where i can change it--unless maybe I can say forgot password or something, but I haven't.

OK; I guess I should try that.  Thanks for your help!

I may be wrong but I think that it's possible that when the rep changed things for your Apple ID it actually changed everything for your Apple ID (meaning if you log into iTunes you will have to use whatever email address and password the rep set up for you. It would not have anything to do with your log in info for One to One). Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying though so if that is the case I apologize.

No actually he just changed my userid name to an email address. So it still worked for one to one. & finally last night I found the place to change my password to conform to the iTunes rules.  I'm a bit astounded that a co like Apple is not in sync on this.

The talk about your Apple ID as though there is one Apple ID, & for me I only have one, but others who were already on ME and or iTunes may have distinct apple IDs for each.  But I only started with one in April 21010 when I got this MacBookPro. & I'm older & had never used iTunes although it was on the computer & updated even. (I did have to download it to the Windows side).

So its all taken care of. I was able to register myiPhone using iTunes last night after changing my password & also to sign in to One to One although they were having problems last night & most of the times I tried it didn't take, but I think they were just super busy & maybe making changes behind the scenes.  The i devices seem to be very popular as witnessed by the treads about ship dates for iPhone here. & what I saw at the apple store.  I'm trying to schedule another One to One training to learn more.

But I'm learning more on my own. I love it. Last night I set up errand reminders for today based on when I leave the previous place (after making sure that the previous place's address is in my addressbook.  That is soooo awesome.  & now I'd better get on with my day.

Glad you got everything figured out. My personal experience (although this is my first iPhone I have owned several iPods dating back to the iPod Mini that no longer exists) has always been one Apple ID across the board. Even when I briefly had ME it used the same Apple ID that my iTunes does and anything I log in to that is associated with Apple. In my case, my ID has always been an email address so that may be why I've never come across any problems with my ID meeting any rule changes. I do have another Apple ID but it's an old one that was attached to an old email address (it was also an email address ID) but the only time I have to use it is when I transfer old iTunes purchases made with that ID to a new computer or something along those lines. In that sense, there are probably a lot of people with more than one Apple ID for various reasons.

As far as popularity...yes Apple iDevices definitely has it's share of popularity. I personally haven't used any other Apple products than the iPhone and iPods but I can understand the reason so many people become loyal customers of their products. It's great that you are finding the One to One training so helpful. I have never used it, but it sounds like a great tool. There is also a wealth of information available on the internet and on Apple's website that will help you along the way. Hope you enjoy your new iPhone to the fullest...and hopefully you won't have any issues in the future with the tasks you want to do.

You'll get the hang of it. My mother had the same concern (she didn't even consider a full touchscreen device until she say my iPhone and decided she wanted one)...it took a little getting used to but she's really fast with it now. You can also create some shortcuts to help you out for phrases or words you use a lot. That can help speed up your experience...I have created a few basic ones for phrases or nicknames I use often (like "gm" for good morning lol).
