I'm being charged for an excessive amount of data that i have not used

I bought a 16 GB iPhone 4S with a 2 GB data plan about a month ago, and it has been charging me with excessive data that I have NOT used. The first month, I was charged 14 gigs. However, halfway through the month, I turned off the cellular data on my phone and used just WiFi only, but kept receiving txts from Verizon saying I was still using data. The next billing cycle started on the 21st. Today- the 24th- Verizon says I have used 2.270 GB's. The day before, I had turned of cellular data- again- and was still receiving warning txts from Verizon saying I was still using data. This, of course, can't be possible because turning off cellular data turns off 3G and restricts all data to WiFi. At $10 per GB, this screw up is very expensive and frustrating. Is anyone else having this problem? Also, does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it? I called Verizon, but they kept giving me roundabout answers that got me absolutely nowhere except pissed off. I did notice that all this started when i upgraded to iOS 5.1, if that helps at all.

Sometimes after the new bill cycle day or so the number won't adjust untill 2 days or so. I'm sorry for everything. I would call vzw again and ask for tech and they can tell you everything you did with the data or you can talk to a manager and get a bonus I know they have it for mins and text I don't know about data.

Yes, gresham.d, I am having the exact same problem. I have had my iPhone 4s for about 6 months, but all of a sudden I have started getting messages saying I have "used 50+% of my data usage for the billing cycle..." - only 1-2 days into the cycle... I use the phone almost never (maybe 1-2 calls a day), listen to NPR for 1 hour a day, NO texts or gaming...no app usage except for some radio. As for the nice suggestion from gina7239 above to "call Verizon" - try that sometime! I am surprised gresham.d reached them at all - I can't even find a valid telephone # anywhere anymore...certainly not on their site. I have a feeling there is going to be a class action suit about this issue as well...
