I'm interested in buying an iPhone 4s off of somebody, but am unsure how I will be able to activate it.

I would like to use a Pay As You Go Plan and avoid a contract, can I do so? Or do I have to enter a contract in order to activate it.

You can't use a smartphone on the pay as you go plan. You need a smartphone pre-paid plan. Also make sure it's a Verizon branded iPhone. An Iphone from another carrier won't work on Verizon.
