International roaming

We are traveling tomorrow to Bahamas from U.S.A. and only want to use their wireless Internet to connect for contact with family..

We don't want to receive texts or calls or emails or any other push notifications unless we do it manually.

My question is, do we just go into settings :  general : network: and turn cellular data to "off" or do we also have to go into "roaming" and turn off "international CDMA, data roaming and voice roaming."

Thank you in advance!!!

I would say turn off the whole data network. But when you turn it on all those things waiting will be there. Like if you have Facebook and you get a notification when it's off then you turn it in it will be there. Your usage will jump up when you turn it on again. I don't think you need data to do text but it is very expensive.

You should get the international plan to save you money if available.

Take the battery out of your phone and leave it at home. I was charged expensive roaming charges when my phone's roaming voice, data and international CDMA were turn off and in the state room safe on the Disney Dream cruise ship. Billing at verizon was no help and they said I owed the entire amount, even with the phone off and in the safe.

An easy way for them to make money off vacation travelers.

DON"T USE VERIZON AT ALL IF YOU TRAVEL INTERNATIONALLY! THEY LIE ABOUT YOUR USAGE among many things. Buyer beware because they will not be responsible and accountable even if they record the conversations. I called them several times to find out my usage and they said about 100 mb. I get back and it is 1 GB or 10x more. $658 bill and this is just Canada with the international plan, etc. They don't have good options. Only option is use WIFI hotspots, turning everything off or looking at a prepaid plan in the host country or getting a relative to get a temporary plan for you in the host country. LIVING AND LEARNING. I am looking at other providers currently as this was 3x that I got crapped over by Verizon

It is worst than that. 3 out of 3 times Verizon ripped me off. I called to make sure everything was set up before my trip to Canada. I get back and I get $600 to $1000 bills. I call 5 to 10 times to be sure. They credited most of it back on the 2 of the 3 occasions but I can't even tell if they actually got all of it because the bill will be so mucked up but I know it could not have been all of it because I eneded up paying far more than I usually pay on my monthly bill when I calculated it would have or should have been about $50. Oh and by the way, I am in the cost accounting field, so if I have trouble with it than most people do. Finally the last time, the most recent I went to Canada again and once again, I made sure that it was all set up etc. I got alerts that stated that I was being charged regular rates for roaming and that the bill is going to be so high!!. I kept calling while I was on vacation in Canada out of panic and they kept assuring me that I was on the 100mb for $25 plan and they stated that I have not even come close to the first 100mb. Later kept calling because the alerts kept happening that I was being charged $2.09 per mb or something like and my bill roaming charges will be $ amount. Once again they assured me and stated the amount that I actually used. I get home and get a bill of over $350 in roaming charges stating that I used over 1gb of data roaming. After the CSR kept telling me that I only used slightly over the 100mb at final tally. They refused to clean up the bill and insist that I used it. I know I did not. It is impossible. i had everything turned off and I only logged into a computer in California as the most of the data usage. Also the previous times and this time they made sure that they know that I got credits!! Even though they were credits that was there fault and erroneous billing. I do not like this at all and I want FTC to get involved. They act like a monopoly. I already paying well over $200 in services every month for years.
