It's probable that the port is damaged unless you can charge it using a different cable (in which your cable would be the issue) or if the battery needs to be replaced. I assume it is out of warranty but if you have any Apple repair facilities in your area you could have them take a look at it. They would be able to tell you for sure what's wrong and how much it would cost to repair.
