Do charges apply to messages sent between I phone users?

If users opt into iMessages, then all messages are sent via data - either cellular or WiFi.

If it is available even if it is switched to on it can after u press send it could send as text. I had send as iMessage only no text and it still sent as text. It was blue when I pressed send. Don't know.

Hello Dough, thank you for your inquiry. Thank you everyone for your info. As long as iMessage is turned on in Settings>Messages, any messages sent back and forth from iPhones will be sent via iMessage. These are sent over the data network and not charged SMS rates. If data is not available for any reason, then the messages will be sent via regular text messaging and charged as applicable. The way to tell if a message is sent via regular message versus iMessage is that iMessages will appear blue and regular SMS will appear green.

I hope this explains it.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR RESPONSES.MARQUIAF_VFW  WAS MOST HELPFUL AND CLEAR. I WAS NOT ENTIRELY CLEAR ON MY PARTICULAR ARRANGMENT WITH MY PONE AND VERIZON.  I AM BRAND NEW TO THE HIGH ECH WORLD OF SOMTHING OTHER THAN AN OLD FLIP PONE WHICH BIT THE DUST. SO I HAD UNDER MY OLD PLAN BLOCKED TEXT MESSAGING ( BEEN A CUSTOMER FOR OVER 20 YEARS WITH SAME COMPANIES THAT HAVE BEE BOUGHT OUT BY OTHER TO LASTEST ALLTELL BY VERIZON)

SO IN ADDITON TO THIS REPONSE MY TEXT MESSAGING WHICH I THOUHGT WAS  THOUGH THE IOS APPLE SYSTEM WAS BILLED AT $.20/MIN. EVEN TO MY FAMILY MEMBER WHO HAVE I PONES. THIS WHICH PROMOTED MY QUESTION.

THE KEY FOR ME AND ANSWER WAS IN MESSAGING SCREEN IN SETTINGS THE SEND AS AMA MUST BE OFF TO INSURE THAT IF I-MESSAGE IS NOT AVAILABLE THE MESSAGE IS NOT SENT OVER SMS NETWORK AND THERE FORE CHARGED.  WILL SEE ON MY NEXT BILL IF THIS IN FACT SOLVED THE PROBLEM BUT I AM PRETTY SURE AFTER CONVERSATIONS WITH VERIZON THAT THIS WILL BE THE CASE.

Does that just apply to Verizon customers? What about a message from a Verizon iPhone to a Sprint iPhone?

The reference is for contacts bewtween i phone to i phones on the i phone ios opperating system- so it should make no difference who your carrier is ATT, Verizon, Srint. Your operatin all in the Apple universe.
