She owned it for approx 1 1/2 years now. Phone is randomly turning off, or instantly losing battery life. Brought it to Verizon yesterday, guy didn't even touch it. Said nothing can be done unless she downloads everything to computer and resets her devce, or buy a new phone. Of course that made her more upset. What can be done.

Oh boy, mommao2babies0810. We want to get the power you are used to. Do you have the recent software version on your 4S? http://vz.to/1hYy7zT

Thank you for clarifying. Have you had the opportunity to complete a soft reset of the device as previously suggested? This is done by holding the Power and Home keys until the device restarts. The final step before reviewing the warranty would be a device restore: http://bit.ly/SZ87Gk
Thank you,

Have you done two consecutive cycles of draining phone to zero power then charging to 100%. This re-calibrates the battery.
You must drain the battery to 0% each time!
I recently did this with my iPhone and now get a much better reading of actual battery power % remaining and also better overall battery life.
