My cousin gave me his old iPhone (he had to get a new one on AT&T), and I was wondering how I go about setting it up with a new account? I don't currently have a Verizon phone or account, so I can't register or log in to the site to do it, so do I just need to go to a Verizon store and have them do it? It still is set to my cousin's old phone number (which is disconnected). I would like to transfer my current AT&T phone number as well.
Also, can I set it up with a month-to-month plan, or does it have to be a contract?

If the iPhone is atat you can't set it up with Verizon. If it is a Verizon you can do a month 2 month without a contract because your bringing your own equipment.
If it is a Verizon iPhone you can call 18009220204 or go to the store

Yeah, the phone is Verizon. That's why my cousin had to get a new one, because he was switching to AT&T.
Thanks for the help!

There's a lot of posts not knowing you can't use another brand iPhone so I was giving you all facts.

Your initial post was conflicting. I thought the same exact thing. The same thing Gina said if its Verizon phone just call Verizon and they will set it up with no contract.
It doesnt matter if it was on your cousins account. They won't care as long as the ESN is clean.

I knew what I was saying, but I guess it didn't come out quite as clear as it sounded in my head. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the help.

Ok, I have another question. My cousin couldn't use his old VZ iPhone that he gave me anymore because his dad had it shut off or whatever, taken off the plan. Do you think the fact that it got the service shut off would make the ESN (or MEID I guess) bad?

The only thing that would make an ESN or MEID bad is if the account was ever shut off involuntarily. Such as due to Non-payment or Fraud. The phone cannot be associated with a ACTIVE Verizon MDN. If the account was turned off voluntarily the ESN will not be bad.

Synthetica,
We would love to have you join the Verizon Wireless family! It's okay that you don't currently have a Verizon account. You can contact us at 800.256.4646 (800.2.JOININ) or go into any Corporate Verizon Wireless location. As long as the iPhone isn't still attached to your cousins account with a balance, you are able to activate. To clear out your cousin's data in the phone, follow these simple steps:
1. Go to Settings, then General
2. Select Reset, then Erase all Content and Settings
Yes, whenever you bring you own device you are able to setup your account with no contract.
Thank you,
