Could Verizon iPhone 4 use in Japan?
Since Verizon iPhone 4 uses only CDMA, I wonder it can be used in Japan. BB Storm with dual mode (GSM/CDMA) could work in Japan but the original Droid (w/CDMA only) couldn't.
I know AT&T version works in Japan.

If the OG Droid didn't work then most likely no. It looks like japan does offer cdma roaming with some limitations though. http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Global_Phone/Asia-Pacific/Japan.html

Hi Edokko,
The Verizon iPhone 4 is not a "world phone" like the BlackBerry Storm, so it has some limitations for global roaming.. Both the Motorola Droid and the iPhone 4 are CDMA only. As a matter of fact, even the Droid 2 is CDMA only, but they do offer a Droid 2 Global version which does support global roaming. Verizon has a number of options for people who travel:

The situation should change with the adoption of LTE. LTE is anticipated to become a global standard with both Verizon and AT&T adopting it for "4G' coverage, as well as much of Europe, Asia, and I expect the Far East. If memory serves, Japan is on the forefront of LTE technology.
Good luck!

You are able to use CDMA while traveling in Japan; therefore, your iPhone will work. You may need to have the International Dialing Feature added to your line before you travel. If it is added after you leave, the feature may not work and you may not be able to use your device. To have this feature added, please call Customer Service at 800-922-0204, and we will be happy to assist you.
Additionally, you will need to update the Preferred Roaming List, (PRL), before you leave, but after the International Dialing Feature is added. To update your PRL, please follow the below steps while in a Verizon Wireless coverage area and receiving a digital signal:
1. Dial *228 and SEND
2. When prompted, select option 2.
3. Stay on line until you receive a "completed" message.
The rates while traveling in Jamaica are as follows:
- Voice- CDMA Standard Roaming Per Minute Rate: $1.99
- Text Message- $0.50/address sent/ $0.05/message received
- Data Plan- 70 MB $100.00/month $0.005/KB ($5.12/MB)
* OR Pay Per Use Plan: $0.02/KB ($20.48/MB).

Note that the information above from VZW support switches from Japan to Jamaica so do not rely on it.

Right. In Japan there is no plan option at all, so it's $20.48 per MB!

It also appears that you can't send a text message from Japan. Unless you have money to burn, the iPhone will basically be an iPod Touch in Japan with the added advantage of GPS (if you have locally stored maps) and the ability to make and receive calls in an emergency.
