i just talked to a lady on the chat here from verizon and there are towers down in michigan. no ETA on a fix. im really ticked about this as we have no landline. what would you do if you had a 911 emergency?

Unfortunately, that is a drawback to relying on wireless devices completely. At any time something can happen that interrupts service (no phone or carrier is immune to this) and you would be in the same situation if you had no other way to make calls.
