Passcode issues

I have a 4s phone and have had a message under settings and went there today and downloaded it. It turns out it was a 7. something software where I had to create a passcode. Not knowing that I would need this passcode to use my phone I did not write it down, and now I can't get into my phone. Can you help me please?
