Problem sending Verizon.net email on iPhone

This may have already been covered here, but I can't find a thread on it.  I've successfully set up my verizon.net email as one of my mailboxes on my iPhone 4 (at least I thought I did), but I can't send emails from the phone.  When I try to send an email message I get the following on my iphone screen:

A copy has been placed in your Outbox.  The recipient "my user name"@verizon.net" was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.

This happens when I'm trying to send email to someone else entirely so I'm not sure why it the message specifies the recipient as me!  Obviously, there is something here I don't understand.

My verizon.net settings on my phone are:

host name:  incoming.verizon.net

SMTP:  outgoing.verizon.net

Use SSL:  OFF

Authentication: Password

Server Port: 110

I have no trouble receiving emails on my iPhone from this account.  I just can't send any.  This happens when I'm on wireless as well as when I'm on 3g with the wireless cut off.

Can anybody help?  Thanks!

sllittle53, here are the settings for verizon.net accounts (substitute your user name and
password for "username" and "password"):

Type: POP

Name: Your name (sent in the message header)
Address: username@verizon.net
Description: anything you want
Incoming mail server: incoming.verizon.net
Username: username (without the at verizon.net)
Password: password

Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
host name: outgoing.verizon.net
Username: username (must enter, even though iPhone says optional)
Password: password

Advanced:
Incoming Settings
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 110

Outgoing Settings
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 25

If the problem still persists after changing to these settings, please send me a PM with your wireless number, a different contact number, and a good time to call you for resolution and I'll be glad to help further.

Thanks,

Thank you, thank you.  I have been trying to get my verizon.net email to send since I got this phone over a week ago!

I'm getting the same error message that slittle53 was getting, with a slightly different problem that I'm trying to solve.  I can get email send and receive working fine if I use the same username for both Incoming and Outgoing servers.  But I'm trying to change the outgoing server username to another account so my sent mail appears to be coming from the account on my computer.  In other words, I'm trying to change the From and/or Reply-to address on my sent mail so other people don't send replies back to my iPhone.  I'd rather have them reply to my home email address.

I have separate email addresses for home and iPhone since I have a large number of Rules set up on my home computer to filter the mail that gets sent to my iPhone.  I have Verizon email, multiple accounts on Verizon, and just bought an iPhone 4 a couple of days ago.

Is there any way to make this work?  If I change the outgoing username to something different from the incoming, I get the error message.  If both usernames match, I get no error message, and the emails are sent successfully.

Or can you suggest a better solution to what I'm trying to accomplish?

Thanks.

I checked all the ports, passwords and everything bu it still does not work. We have att for out carrier. We also have i cloud installed. We took the phone to the at&t sore, verizon store and even talked to tech support, but we sstill cannot get it work. Any guidance you give me would be greatly appreciated.
