My phone (LG Enlighten) has been messing up here and there, and I've been wanting an iPhone anyways. However the upgrade is not due until next year. My boyfriend has a iPhone 4s under Sprint or AT&T, one of the two, and he is getting a new one soon. Without upgrading anything, would I be able to switch phones?

You can't use an iPhone from Sprint or AT&T on the Verizon Wireless network.

One more question, let's say I got a used Verizon iPhone from Amazon or a friend. Can I take that to a verizon store and have my phones switched without changing my plan?

You should be able to. Just make sure that your paperwork and plan on their screen still shows the plan as how you have it now. Don't leave the store without it correct.
You can also activate the phone through your MyVerizon account online without needing to go to the store.
One additional word of warning, if you have any saved voicemails they will be deleted when you activate the iPhone. The iPhone uses a different voicemail system and you will need to set it up again.
