Unlimited data plan ending

I am so confused...Me and 3 other people in my family share an unlimited data plan for a little over $200 a month. Two of us have iphones and the other two just have regular flip phones.  What is going to happen since we don't have unlimited data usage anymore?? I got a text today saying we have already used 75% of our data for this pay period and the new pay period started today...I'm flipping out.

My dear friend,

like yourself I too am going through the same thing except I have four smart phones. One IPhone and the rest androids. I was made to upgrade and now we are on a 16gb a month share plan.. Also as of April of this year anytime you upgrade it will cost you 30.00 per line.. yup say goodbye to your hard earned dollars..

I have the same issues,  my family has three smartphones and 1 basic, we were told that if we did a upgrade that it would save us on data usage due to the new plan of smart phones ( mind U I was on Family Share Nation wide 700 unlimited talk, txt, & data),not  understanding  their reasoning other than making a profit, you have no choice in what you want, even if you try to go back you end up having to choose their " saving your Family overages plan" , two days after the switch we were at 90% I was on the phone immediately the next day, mind U i started and still am trying to get this bill

straightened out since  thanksgiving, I have spoke with Verizon customer care five different times to no avail & all told me different things, and they will not hear me out, then last Saturday one rep. actually (Jamie) is trying to help me work what is best for our family, but still not able to get back on old plan. I applied for  Employee Discount due to the fact Jamie told me about it I just found out today I get % discount on bill as long as I signed up for paperless billing. Long Story, but for those planning on getting family share be advised take caution and really investigate more ( wish I had Listened to my son)  and there should not even be a bill in  advanced charge  for the next month- some of us cant afford. I will continue to fight this and if no conclusion I will change carriers, Tell me how Verizon Manages to be "" #1" HuMMMMMMM.

If it's $200 a month, that suggests you the 2GB plan (or even the 1 if $200 includes tax).  That's probably not enough for the two iphones (especially if you were making use of unlimited data before.)  You can buy increments of 2GB for $10 each per month, up to 20GB or so.  It is much cheaper to get extra than pay overages.

Did you switch because you upgraded?  If you had smartphones before, look at your data usage over the previous months and that will give you some idea of what you will need.   If smartphones are new, add some data to the plan now (to avoid huge overage), use Wifi whenever possible, and see how much is used so you can adjust for future months.

Unfortunately, some sales people are encouraged to get people to switch to share everything, and they can make it look cheaper by including less data than is really needed.  Don't know if that happened here.

Your post is confusing. First you say you have unlimited data then you state you're near your limit and that you don't have unlimited data. Maybe you need to spell out CLEARLY which plan you actually have before anyone can help you.

Yeah I know how you feel...I drove 80 miles & stood in line for an hour to upgrade to a iphone 5, only to find out that if I did, I would lose my unlimited data...

I don't use that much data per month, but I don't want to have them change our agreement either!

So in a couple months, if they haven't got this fixed, I'll probably be looking for another carrier....there's some out there that have unlimited everything....

So the answer to your question is, if they won't do right by you, switch carriers....

What "issue" are they supposed to fix? They are not gong to to change their unlimited data policy. Also they are not changing you agreement. An upgrade is a NEW contract which means a NEW agreement. NEW agreement NEW terms. You didn't have t drive 80 miles to find out since this made the major news sources back in June when it was announced.

Those other carriers have "unlimited" data not unlimited data. Buyer beware. Hope you live in an area where these other carriers actually have decent signals.

They wouldn't be changing your agreement if you upgrade with a discount. If you do so, your old agreement is coming to an end. YOU would be changing your agreement by entering into a NEW agreement(contract).

Unlimited data is not coming back within the next few months, so in your eyes it won't be "fixed".

When I say fixed, I mean get their act together...other carriers are out there with better plans...(and some with worse)...

By contract I'm with them for 2 more months, after that if I find a carrier with a better deal I'll be gone.

I pay over $100+ a month, basically for sending a few dozen messages a month, I don't use much air time & not a lot of data either, even though I have the hot spot turned on (don't work that well).

With the bandwidth I use its like they are getting free money...so I don't see why they even want to bother with me....but I guess you have a point its their ball game. (But its my money.) Smiley Happy
