I'm studying abroad right now in New Zealand sans any kind of phone service. My understanding is that if I had the foresight to figure this all out before I traveled, I could have had my phone unlocked at a Verizon Store and used a new SIM card for when I was here in NZ.
Is there any way to unlock it here? I'm really trying to watch my funds, and I don't want to buy a whole new phone for just a few months.
Thanks.

Yes you can, call global support team, the free number is 1-908-559-4899, they'll see if you are eligible to unlock the phone , there's a whole process and basically if it is successful, unlocking the phone will allow you to use another carrier in New Zealand while you are there, by sticking in their global SIM Card

you have to be in good standing, your bill must be current and a customer for 60-90 days. they will then unlock you phone. they will send and email to read and agree to. this could take up to 2-3 days.
