Using Data

I am new to the world of spartphones.  I just got the Iphone4.  I have 4gb of data.  When is data counted?  Is is counted when you are using an ap and how do I know how much data I need?

email, texting, internet & any apps that continually update thru internet are using data.

if you can, use wi-fi, you won't be using data.

if you don't do a lot of internet, 4g should be fine, even without wi-fi.

fwiw:

be careful with wi-fi if being used at starbucks or any public place, it's not encrypted & gives no protection of what you're doing on the phone.

Imessageing uses data texting does not.

Unless you are on wifi or it is sent as a text, imessage will use your data.
