Using Mobile Hot spot feature

I just updated my plan to add more data and unlimited texting and see that it includes the mobile hotspot feature.  I have never used this feature before.  I have an Iphone 4.  Do I need to buy a separate device if I want to use it?  Can I connect my laptop to the the feature somehow?

Thanks for the information but it didn't work. When I get to the point of joining my network at Mark's iPhone the network is not there. Is there a step before that to activate it?
