I just updated the VZ Navigator App - it won't initialize now - starts to open - then shuts down. Anyone else having this issue?

I think your main issue is that you're using VZ navigator to begin with.

I like map quest app free turn by turn if apple maps doesn't work. I don't like paying for something that can be for free.

Im also having the same problem. I have deleted and re-installed several times and I just upgraded to the new IOS. Nothing seems to work here.

I just located the following information regarding this issue on the itunes website:
Description
** IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT VZ NAVIGATOR AND IOS6 **
Some iPhone customers with iOS6 are experiencing a crash after they download the updated v9 version of VZ Navigator from the app store. As a temporary fix, customers can use the following workaround:
On iPhone with iOS6: Go to Settings > Privacy > Contacts
Verify the contacts switch is set to ON. Then relaunch VZ Navigator
If there is no option for VZ Navigator, perform a reset of the Location & Privacy settings.
On iPhone with iOS6: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy
Performing a reset for ‘Location & Privacy’ will delete your consents to access location and personal data that you already established and you will be prompted to set up your preferences again. Applications or services that require opt-in consent to access Location or Privacy may not function in whole or in part until such consent is provided.
A fix is in development and an app update will be available in the coming days!

Hello abear2 and everyone!
We appreciate all of the feedback we received after the recent update to VZ Navigator. On November 15 we did make a fix available for the application. Just go to the App store and download the new version of VZ Navigator!
