This is not a service company; its an advertising campaign. iPhone 4s does not work overseas as promised. No way to contact VZW from outside the country to get it working. Three emails sent beginning six days ago asking for help; no help, no reply from tech or customer service.

Ten-year customer. When I get home I will gladly pay the termination fee to be rid of them forever.

Did you have international services activated on the phone BEFORE ya left???  Call 908-559-4899

Yes, but it took six days and one flame and never got an email response. A major fail.

Fixed now but a very late and inadequate response for a traveling user.

Excellent advice. It would be a step back 10 years or more to prehistoric days before global roaming (new device but the same provider). Would have gone back to the airport to get a prepaid if I'd had the time. I'm having the sim card slot unlocked by VZW when I get home to deny them any future roaming revenue. When hanging around a donkey, always have a 2x4 handy in case you need to get his attention, hence the flame.

There are some nice "dual-number" prepaid cards sold online that work everywhere but the US. Incoming calls to my VZW number would ring my phone, outbounds go through a foreign number.nobody needs to remember. And they're not $2, $3 or $5 a miinute.

BTW, per tech support (two tries) my phone didn't work because VZW didn't have the right sim card number in their system to match the phone. Which I bought from them.
