Verizon is charging me for crap that wasn't even a problem with the phone

I recently sent in a phone under warranty because I had had it for only 8 months and the power button stopped working. Now that I've turned in the old phone they claim to have corrosion where the charge port was and they are charging me $300 for something that wasn't even the problem with the phone. There was no corrosion, its a load of crap because they don't want to replace a phone that was having issues. I've been a verizon customer for ten years and I'm seriously considering cancelling my account and going to Sprint. I mean, even now, when we upgrade we are going to have to pay for data limits instead of keeping our already existing unlimited data plans. They're just trying to bleed us dry.

Did they give you a new replacement phone and then they charged you for the one that sent back. You have to get a pic of it to be charged. I'm just trying to understand.

FYI, apple care is a flat fee less than $100 dollars and extends your 1 year warranty" to 3 years total and if you need to replace a phone they do it for you FREE as long as you can bring the iPhone or pieces of it to an apple store.

If there's physical damage apple won't take care of it. Verizon covers it for as long as you keep it if there's nothing wrong with it. If you disagree with the charge financial services is who you need to talk to. They can put charges on hold and make arrangements for payments to keep your phone on. Up to 4 months I think.

I know it is easy to believe, when these things happen, that there is some underlying conspiracy that is trying to force you into submission, but it is not necessarily that way. Corrosion is an indicator of "water damage" on the phone and I believe they do send pictures of the affliction - at least, that is what I have heard on other forums. Water damage does not necessarily have immediate effects all of the time and can create a scenario in which the insides slowly rot.

It could be worse you could have been charged $650 or more.

Applecare plus will. You have 2 incidents of accidental damage. And I believe unlimited for 2 years hardware failure.

Accidental Damage from Handling

If during the Plan Term you submit a valid claim notifying Apple that the Covered iPhone has failed due

to accidental damage from handling (“ADH”), Apple will subject to the service fee described below either

repair the defect using new or refurbished parts that are equivalent to new in performance and

reliability, or (ii) exchange the Covered iPhone with a replacement product that is new or equivalent to

new in performance and reliability, and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product (both

individually known as a “Service Event”).

  ADH coverage will expire and all of Apple’s obligations to

you under this section 3.2 will be fulfilled in its entirety before the end of the Plan Term when

Apple, as a result of ADH claims, has provided to you two (2) Service Events.

  You will pay a $49 (U.S.) dollar service fee plus applicable tax for each ADH claim,

Apple care plus is only covers the 4 8gig not anything before that.
