I got a new phone and asked for the insurance coverage, but I can't see anywhere on my bill where that's itemized. In a free market there is competition and there's a phone insurance company that offers better coverage for less cost. I need to know what the difference is for comparison.

If insurance is on the account and its not showing on your monthly invoice in may not have been added on.
It is up to you to compare insurance plans out there.
Asurian has replacements with second hand devices, no matter how many months you pay premiums you also have a deductible for an iPhone it is $169 which must be paid up front before they ship out a replacement. http://www.phoneclaim.com
Other companies I have no idea. I never use insurance on cell phones.
