You have to have Verizon service to unlock and your suggested to keep it on the service while traveling. Not sure if you do but I deffinantly know that you have to have someone have the phone on it for a few months before unlocking. There strict on those things. You should have got an official unlocked iPhone.

Verizon may or may not be able to unlock your phone anymore. It is a service provided to their customers. People may think they can buy an iphone at a deep discount and leave the country forever without paying any cancelation fee. Try Apple stores to see if they can help you.

Apple has strict rules against Jail Breaking Locked Phones. If you want an Unlocked IPhone you must buy it Official from Apple.Com! There are also strict Rules about Exporting U.S.A. Apple IPhone's to Countries other than Canada.
