Why did I use roaming data?

I have an iPhone 4s, I have voice only roam selected, yet it shows I have used 12mb of data roam.  How is this possible if I have data roam turned off?  Is there another setting I need to adjust?  I need voice roam as I am in another country, just don't want data roam.  Thanks!

Yes that is the the proper way to turn it off.

However Verizon answered your initial question. Roaming data can be accessed if you are on an extended network.

Data can be accessed on your device even if turned off completely. Certain updates and device registering on the home or roaming network will occur.

I have data roaming off, and cellular data off on my iphones and I use WiFi 99% of the time. However on certain nights I see 1-10MB of recorded usage. However I have unlimited data.

While in Montreal I use the full cellular and data settings to on and I don't use that much data.

The amount you keep talking about 12MB is low use.

Good Luck

Circleof05ths,

Here to help resolve this concern so that you may continue to enjoy your trip! In addition to powering off the data roaming feature, have you also powered off the Cellular data feature? What country in particular are you visiting?

I haven't turned off the Cellular Data feature because I travel

between Seattle and Vancouver, BC. So, I want cellular data when it's

local, just not when it's roaming. Since there was an option to turn

off roaming data, it implies that you would only use the cellular data

when it wasn't roaming. Is this not correct? Thanks.

We would love to clarify Circleof05ths! Even with Data roaming off this could still utilize data if the network that is being accessed is a partner with VZW. Anytime you're outside of the US we do recommend fully powering off all cellular data to prevent unexpected charges. Please keep us posted if we can be of any additional assistance, thanks!

Thanks for the reply. So, to be clear, even though I have turned

off Data Roam, I will still be charged for Data Roam if I access a

partner of VZW network? Is that what the Extended means on my phone?

I noticed that it has replaced the Verizon that was on my phone. What

can you do on a partner network? Are all calls and text charged as

roaming as well?

As I explained my earlier post, I cannot turn off cellular data.

I am on business so I need access to my email and having to rely on

spotty wifi service is just not going to cut it. Are there other data

plans other than the $25 a month for 100mb? That seems awfully low for

that much money.

One more thing, why has the email support gone away? It was one

of the best ways to get support. I can't use the live chat at work

because of security issue and I can't be on the phone waiting for

support. This issue isn't a big deal to post, but if I had a billing

issue or something that would require me to divulge personal

information, I would pretty much have no way of contacting Verizon.

Hello Circleof05ths, let's get to the bottom of this together! If you have Data Roaming turned off, you will be unconnected to an international network meaning no charges. If you have data roaming turned on, you will be connected to the partner carrier and there would be international charges while in Vancouver. View details here: http://vz.to/1f6uMxg While roaming, texts, calls, and data will continue to work, but if in another country there are separate charges for each. The $25 100 megabyte plan is the only global data plan offered. If you go over the 100 megabytes, another $25 is charged for an additional 100 megabytes.

Hi,

Okay, but that brings me back to my original question. If I have

data roaming turned off why is it showing up on my phone that I have

used data roaming? That's what I want to know. I have it shut off,

it's been shut off for 7 months, why am I still getting usage listing

that I have used roaming data? As of now, it's a very low amount, like

10-12mb, but I'd like to find out why this is even coming up and what I

can do to fix it. I have the $25 for 100mb plan as a precaution. To

sum up here's what I'd like to have answered:

If I have data roam turned off, why is my phone saying I have used

12mb of roaming data?

Circle of05ths, I have reviewed both our forums and the manufacturer information and I am not showing any issue with Data Roaming. If you disable data roaming you will not incur data roaming charges. Were you charged for the $12MB of data roaming while data roaming was turned off?

Okay, one more time:

If I have data roam turned off, why is my phone saying I have used 12mb

of roaming data?

I don't understand why no one can answer this simple question. I

am not asking about charges. I am asking why my phone is saying I have

used data roam if I have turned the option off on my phone. I

currently have the 100mb Global plan and I want to make sure I don't

accidentally go over the 100mb. So, obviously I'm concerned that I am

some how using roaming data even though I have turned it off on my

phone. I need a way to keep track of this and it's kind of hard to do

that if my phone is recording roaming data, but I'm not getting charged

for it. How am I supposed to know when I do use roaming data and will

get charged for it?

I have disabled the roaming data under Settings-Celluar-Roaming and

selected Voice Only. IS that the correct way to do it or is there

another place I should be setting it in as well.
