I was told by a Verizon store employee that I may not want to invest in a iPhone 4S because Verizon will be dumping the 3G network and the 4S will not work then... Is this just smoke? He said that if I traded/updated every couple of years then it may be ok... Any input?
The 3G network on Verizon Wireless will likely be operational for some years to come.

Their 1X network will be dumped long before 3G and that will be at least 3-4 years. 3G will be around for at least 10 years I suspect.
