iMessaging Usage

At the beginning of this month I upgraded my wife's phone to an iPhone 4s. I have an iPhone 4.  When we text each other we use iMessaging and the text bubble is blue now and no longer green as in the past.  I understand it's blue because it is an iMessage. I thought iMessages did not count against out text message usage, however when I checked our usage today I see that both of our text messages are being counted against our usage. Why would that be ?

Maybe after it attempted to send as iMessage it turned into text. Does it show still a blue? Sometimes it turns green after being blue. You can call and get that credited by having them understand it was an iMessage if they don't believe you anyone can use there iPhone punchin that number in to tell them it is an iPhone. Or have apple tell them it should not count against your usage.

I had to have apple explain to get the $1 charge I had. I even had the dont send as SMS block on the iPhone itself too. All Verizon could say is have a text block to block everything but that takes all text freedom away. I will pay for things that aren't suppose to be free imessageing is.

The text bubbles are still blue.  Also before I start typing the text box shows iMessage. Maybe, when I get my bill it won't show the iMessages as counting against me. I'm hoping it only shows it when logging onto My Verizon. Not sure how it's suppose to work. Maybe someone who knows if its suppose to be displayed in My Verizon will jump in here.

Richie, just b/c the message is blue for iMessage when you send it to your wife, does not always mean that it will go through as an iMessage. Sometime if you or her is in an poor reception area, it will go through as a regular text and you will be charged.

here is how imessages work.

Blue = iMessages, BUT it can still be sent as SMS if the you are not connected to iMessages servers(Doesn't have to be a low signal area.  Just could mean imessages server is down or having connection problems).  You can turn this off in the iMessages settings.  Also the person you are sending to must be registered AND connected to the iMessages server

Green = SMS

Now here's something you need to pay attention to.  IF you send BULK iMessages, but one person isn't registered or doesn't have an iDevice then every messages will send it as an SMS.

You said the person you are sending to must be registered to the iMessage server. How do you get registered to the server.?

Everything you need can be found in the iMessages settings.  There is a spot to ensure that you register with iMessages servers in there and you can dictate by number or email in which to be contacted by.  So if you set it up by email then people have to send to your email address and not your number.

Could the problem be that both of us have the same Apple ID ?
