I bought an iPhone 4 demo model tonight from an authorized verizon retail shop. Will this work exactly the same as a retail version? if not, how can I get it to work?

Assuming that the demo model was not modified in some way (no idea if this is something that would occur) then yes, it should be exactly the same. Usually, an active demo model is just an opened retail device that the store sets out for people to test out. You might need to make sure that with it being a demo model it is covered under full manufacturer's warranty. If you got a significant discount then congrats. Curious, was it not activated for you when you bought it? I ask because you asked how do you make it work...
