Am I missing something? I've been waiting forever for Verizon to finally have the iphone, and come to find out it won't take advantage of the 4G capability? Nor can you use the phone and data applications simultaneously? Not to mention it is only CDMA capable? So put off I think I'll switch to ATT like I should have a long time ago.

Apple stated they were not ready to make the changes required to add the 4G radio at this time,.

So Verizon expects people to get an iPhone that runs on their 3G network, is almost a year old, can't do data and voice at the same time, and expects them to want to keep this thing for two years when there will be a new iPhone this summer?    Am I missing the excitement?

This shows the commitment that Verizon Wireless has to please customers. While not needing the iPhone 4, they still went and got it for people. I myself wont be getting it but I am happy other people will finally get what they want. I guess no early upgrades is fair because if people really want it they will pay for it full price. I read an article online that Verizon is eating up the cost for the people who buy the 200 dollar version. Will it even be available at full price? Maybe the apple store will sell it? For me, No Flash Player No Care. When Apple devices to give us flash player then maybe we can talk. I would still have to think about their strict itunes store regulations.

i'm with really nice guy....no flash=no iphone for me. here's the deal. this IS NOT verizon's fault. apple does not make a 4g iphone. why? because they previously only dealt with at&t. at&t HAS NO 4g network. sure...they'll make one eventually. there is also no droid capable of 4g right now. if you want an iphone on a reliable network with moblie hot spot ability, then get verizon's ip4. if you want an iphone with voice over data and an inferior network, then go to at&t. vzn now has essentially the same ip4 that at&t has. none of the rumors i saw ever said this would be a new iphone, capable of 4g...and i don't quite see why that matters since at&t's version is not either??? and you are correct....vzn is going to take a BEATING on the subsidizing of these iphones. they will be giving current customers (with eligible upgrades) $200 and $300 iphones. some have estimated that this will decrease profits by $500 million. they will make up some of that by attracting customers from other carriers to sign up with vzn....but not $500 million worth. customers wanted the iphone and now they are getting it. i'll keep my droid and get 4g (when those models come out).

Does anyone know the technical details of the iPhone 4 that will be used by Verizon?  I thought all iPhone 4's were 4G not 3G like the iPhone 3.

Also, with the phone be using the CDMA version of the SIM card that is currently used in other countries like China?

That is called the R-UIM card for CDMA, it functions in a similar was as the SIM card does for GSM.

No iPhone 4 is 4G, whether it is on AT&T or Verizon. They are ALL 3G phones only.

This problem was caused early on in Apples ads for their upcoming iPhone. They advertised it as iPhone 4G.  What this meant was the 4th Gereration iPhone, not that is was 4G network capable.  They later dropped the  "G" and advertised it as the iPhone 4 in an attempt to alleviate some confusion.

I have to chuckle.... people have been wanting Verizon to get the iPhone for a long time, and now that it's here (well Feb. 11th) there's something they don't like about it.  I'm reminded of the saying:

"You can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time."

Best of luck to everyone.... whatever they decide to do,
