I got a phone call this morning at 11 am with no problem. However, since then, I cannot get calls. All other features are fine. I can send and receive texts and emails. I can call out. When people call me they get a Verizon message that says "Welcome to Verizon Wireless. Your call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and try again". I have never had this issue.
I have made sure all updates are current. I have restart the phone. I have powered it off. I have taken it off of my WiFi and set it to 3G. I have between 3-4 bars. I tried calling, but because I can't be on the phone for tech support, I have to wait for my husband to get home. Any suggestions or thoughts?
For the last 3-4 weeks I have had the same issue. My service goes from no bars to 3 bars and then back to no bars. Verizon sent one of their service units and verified that there was no outage in my area - so it is not always a service outage.
Are you experiencing this issue inside your house or do you have a similar reception issues when you are outside? If it is an indoor only issue then the Verizon technicial suggested it might be that the antenae is just not strong enough to recieve a signal indoors (if you remember when the iPhone 4 first came out people complained about a "death grip"). They suggested adding a network extender - the way they described it was like having your own cell phone tower that runs off of your internet connection.
Given that my phone was working fine and started to have reception issues I suspect something happened to it, but unfortunately they do not seem to be repairable.
One final comment I have met two other iPhone users who have experienced roughtly similar issues of late, so it does not seem to be entirely isolated.
Good luck - and if you come up with a resolution please share it.
That's definitely an unusual situation kendraig! Are you still having difficulties? Have you tried completing a soft reset by holding down the power and home keys? Are any other users in your area having difficulties? Have any of the callers trying to reach you dialing your full number with the area code? Are they using a 1 plus the number? In most cases dialing the ten digit number(with area code) without the 1 is the best way to complete calls on a wireless handset. Please let us know if you need further assistance.

I think it's an iPhone issue. Most of the service providers are remeding this issue by selling MicroCell towers. They are charging between $200 and $250 for these and adding $20 per month!! Can you hear us now Verizon!?!?! We are paying too much now and your remedy is to pay more so that we can use your devices. Absurd!! Fix the problem!!
We have been having alot of iPhone issues! My fiance' has an iPhone 4 and I have an iPhone 4s. In late May we were in Florida on the beach at a Bar/restaurant. My Fiance's phone was trying to connect to a wifi connection by itself. Then all of a sudden it said "This phone cannot make or recieve calls plz log into iTunes and reset phone to factory settings. Within a couple of hours his phone was dead and I mean dead! It wouldn't do anything much less turn on for 3 days!!!!! Once we got back of course no explination from VZ as to what might be causing this. They messed with it and pushed a few buttons and said here it should be fine now. UGH! Really??? Well it works for a little while and then guess what it does it again. So I just push the power button and home button at the same time and it comes back. OK now onto next issue........my iPhone 4s. Recently I have been losing calls thinking all the while it was my son's phone because it always happened when I talked to him. Well obviously not. I tried making a call the other day and kept hitting send over and over and it would not call. I powered off and it still wouldn't so I powered off again then it worked. Thinking that it just froze for a moment I just ignored it. Well today I kept having dropped call after dropped call, unable to receive or make calls as well. Called VZ and the lady actually took notes and listened. Sounds like they are going to be making a trip out here to check towers but again.................I truly believe this is an APPLE ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK PEOPLE WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET THIS RESOLVED BECAUSE IF THEY REPLACE OUR PHONES IT IS NEVER WITH NEW ONES JUST REFERBISHED ONES!!!! SO MUCH BETTER RIGHT??????????????
I had this problem. I couldn't make or receive phone calls but I had full bars, 3g, and everything else worked. when I tried to make a call I would get a Verizon message. I tried *228 and both options and still nothing.
If you have an old phone, try this it worked for me.
go to Verizonwireless and switch your device to another phone that has been associated with your account. follow the instructions to activate the old phone. Once the phone is activated try making a call. if the call connects repeat the process and RE-ACTIVATE your iphone.
