iphone 4 - bait & switch

Imagine my surprise, when, after being asked for data (that's Verizon Wireless' OWN data about my service contract)  &

told, YES -- you are eligible for upgrade to iphone4 -- come on back at 3am 2.3 (really, is it necessary to build the potential for more upset in customer service -- this is a company that hasn't got a clue...)

today I called, just to be sure I couldn't do an add a line tonight rather than an upgrade (that was my question) -- so, IMAGINE my SURPRISE when I was told NO -- you are not reallly eligible, we changed that on 1/15/2011 & "all the systems" aren't caught up yet, so yes -- you got info that said you were, but WHEN YOU CALL at 3 am -- you will be told SORRY--- not for you!

How much more horror is there with this outfit.  worse than the monopoly that was ATT many moons ago.  Save me, yet - best coverage in my area.  aurghhhh.

anyone read this who can make a difference for me, that would be most amazing.

The fact that I understand, for the most part. what you are asking greatly disturbs me. In so many ways. I'll deal with that later in therapy...:smileyvery-happy:

It appears that you have been told at an earlier time that you were eligible for an upgrade-priced phone, but later on, were told that you are in fact, NOT eligible for that upgrade. I'm going to base my answers on that ASSumption. (ahh, guys, really!!...:smileywink:

They did change some upgrade eligibility requirements, the likes of which I'm not getting into here, but I believe that if you were eligible for an upgrade BEFORE this policy change, then your eligibility is still good. I'd call another agent or store and ask them, or try VCS and ask another rep.. I have no idea what you are asking with regard to the upgrade eligibility VS the new line option, you should be able swing either way with that one (ohhh, boy).

Here's a hint: I'm BEGGING you, the next time you talk to a rep, just ask the question in this manner, no less, no more...

Just say, "Hello, can you look at my account and tell if I am eligible for the new or upgrade price on an iPhone, please?"

Just like that, verbatim, word for word. Please. Just give them your account information, don't ad lib or improvise. Otherwise, you'll probably get similar responses like the ones you got here.

However, having said all this, you are bound to have a really difficult time trying to reach anyone since everyone is revving up to try and order an iPhone tonight at 3am whatever standard time.

I'd just try and order one tonight and see what happens...

And please, enough with the handwringing, wailing, pulling of hair, and gnashing of teeth over "this outfit". If your original post is any indication, you probably got the answers that your particular questions warranted.

I'll leave the difference-making to someone else braver than I....:smileyvery-happy:

Absolutely just happened to me.

I was not informed of the change in plan spent 2 hrs in store after multiple "invitations" to "upgrade" iPhone.

My surprise happened when I received a text telling me I was at 90% usage for term ending Oct 8.  That was weird because I have had unlimited for years never got such a message.

I traded up on Aug 15 yesterday went in Sept 21 told unable to reactivate should have come in in 14 days. Also my upgrade became a" favor offered to me or I would pay full price for the iphone4".

Then they became defensive saying sales person would never neglect such an important piece of info that he was a good guy.  They are lying bullies.

I will be reporting the the NC State General Attorney Monday morning for deceptive business practices.
