lost contacts

My iphone did some sort of update 1 day ago and I've completely lost my contact list of over 200 contacts. How do I get it back?

My phone did the same yesterday...updated to the new IOS and it erased all my contacts.  Help Please

Same thing happened to me a month or so ago.  I cleaned them up and all seemed fine for 2-3 weeks, until today, when I went to edit a contact on my iPhone and suddenly 400+ disappeared - I basically have contacts A-G, then nothing after that, which makes me think there's something funky in a file somehwere.  I'm going into Verizon tomorrow, as (luckily?) my contacts seem to be online with Verizon (although many are doubled-up - what's THAT about?).  Argh.  I can't figure out whether it was the iOS update or the new Contact Transfer that did the damage but it totally sucks.  I'm so incredibly pissed.  I also share an iCloud account with my husband (so that we can share apps, etc, easily), but we do NOT want to overwrite each other's contacts, so haven't synched to the cloud... man, nothing's simple! HELP!!!!
