Apple sells the 5s for $99. Verizon charges $599. How can this be?

Verizon has the $99 price only as a "special" offer if you're eligible for an upgrade. Otherwise it's $599. Isn't this deceptive?

It's not a special offer at all. Do some google research so you fully understand how a 2 year contract works for cell phones and your question will be answered

No. And you end up paying the full price of the phone whether you get t he special contract price and pay $25 more for service per month, or buy it at regular price and pay less per month for service.
This his has been the cell phone method for 20 years, where have you been?
