Can a month-to-month phone be activated to a current plan?

I want to buy an iPhone 5s from the verizon website at full price so I can take it in and have it activated. I want to keep my current plan. I saw that there is an option to buy a full priced phone, but it has month-to-month plan underneath it. What is that, and if I get one from the verizon site will I be able to take it in to my local verizon retailer and have them activate it to my plan? I'm not quite sure what the month to month plan is... and that's what's throwing me off. I don't want anything to change but my phone, haha Thank you!

You would be able to keep your current plan. I have never purchased a phone full-price online but I do not believe it makes you choose a plan at all.
